Editor’s Note: Buckrail wishes to clarify that the extension of the building moratorium will not be official until the third reading of the ordinance by the Town Council during its Sept. 16 meeting.

JACKSON, Wyo. — On Monday, Aug. 19, Town Councilors unanimously voted to extend the deadline of the 120-day building moratorium from Oct. 1 to Nov. 20. According to the staff report, this would provide additional time (and four regular Council meetings) for staff, Council and the community to work together to adopt changes to address big buildings.

On June 3, the Town Council declared an emergency 120-day moratorium to halt the application process and development of large buildings. This short timeline made it challenging for staff to assess how the proposed design guidelines and Land Development Regulations (LDRs) could impact the town, per the staff report.

“Finishing all of the required ordinance readings before the Oct.1 deadline would be difficult without multiple special meetings and tight deadlines,” Council said in the staff report.

Town Council is currently updating its schedule to complete a red-line draft of the changes, including three readings to approve any LDR text amendments.
