JACKSON, Wyo. — The Teton County Health Department has launched a year-long Seasonal Mental Health Campaign utilizing the bilingual web-based platform, CredibleMind.

For the Winter campaign, each month will feature various tools and resources on a mental health topic and the unique challenges that winter can pose to mental wellbeing. Any community member who makes a profile and takes a CredibleMind self-assessment will be eligible to enter a monthly raffle for local prizes throughout the winter months.

This month’s topic is: Anxiety. Life is stressful and it’s totally normal to worry. Sometimes, our occasional worry can grow into anxiety, which can affect our mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Read more below and visit the topic center Anxiety on CredibleMind to recognize symptoms, take an assessment and access self-treatment tools and resources.

What is the difference between stress and anxiety? Stress is a temporary response to a one-time event that goes away when it’s over. It is usually caused by something external, such as work, relationships, discrimination, or finances. Anxiety, on the other hand, happens when someone continues to worry over a long period of time, even when there is no stressor. In other words, you can still experience anxiety even if there isn’t anything stressful going on in your life.

What are some options to manage anxiety? Mindfulness, exercise, sleep and practices of gratitude are just some places to start if you are recognizing symptoms of anxiety. CredibleMind features a series on Relieving Anxiety that you can follow along for more self-treatment options and resources.

If you’re struggling with anxiety just remember, you are not alone. Reach out for support from friends, family members, or mental health professionals.
