JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Polls are open today until 7 pm for the special SPET election. A total of 10 propositions are included on the Specific Purpose Excise Tax ballot as well as one initiative to okay the repurposing of previous SPET money.
SPET is an optional, voter-approved 1 percent sales tax. The tax has been in place since the 1980’s and provides approximately $10-$12 million a year toward public capital construction and infrastructure projects.
Each ballot initiative requires just one vote above 50% to pass. If no items pass, sales tax will remain at 5%. If all pass, it will take approximately six years to pay off the total $68.6 million on the ballot at the anticipated rate of collection.
The three voting centers include the Old Wilson Schoolhouse, the Rec Center, and the Teton County Library.
