JACKSON, Wyo. — Another ski season incoming! On Thursday, Dec. 4, at 6 p.m., Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center (BTAC) and Skinny Skis will present the 26th Annual Avalanche Awareness Night.
Doors open at 5 p.m. with a vendor fair featuring local ski organizations, avalanche education providers and safety gear companies. A raffle will also be held to raise funds for BTAC, continuing a tradition from previous years.
“For 26 years the community has come together to kick off the winter season, see old friends, and to ensure avalanche safety is top of mind all season. Every raffle participant plays a role in keeping our community avalanche center going. This year’s event will honor legacy, provide Avy Center and snowpack updates, and speak to having patience with snow and weather, ” BTAC Foundation Executive Director Dwayne Meadows said in a statement.
Speakers include Jim Woodmencey and Buckrail meteorologist Alan Smith. The keynote talk by Sophia Schwartz, a World Cup mogul skier, freeskier and mountaineer, will be about “Having Patience with a Post-Storm Snowpack.”
Attendees can also expect to see an Awareness Film by BTAC and to receive updates and information on the state of the snowpack for the 25/26 season.
