JACKSON, Wyo. — Young creatives in grades 6 to 8 and 9 to 12 are invited to tell their stories through submissions in Teton County Library’s (TCL) new Teen Art & Writing Contest, running throughout the month of February.
According to a TCL press release, prizes will be awarded in three categories for both age groups:
- Digital Art (3D art, animation, digital drawings, etc.)
- Written Art (poetry, short stories, chapters from longer work, skits, etc.)
- Physical Art (sculpture, painting, drawing, etc.)
Prizes include art supply gift certificates and local business gift certificates.
“We’re accepting a wide range of work from tweens and teens,” said Matt George, the library’s Teen Program Coordinator, in the press release. “We see kids being creative in so many different ways that we didn’t want to limit what constitutes ‘art.’ And we also wanted to be sure that local homeschooled students felt welcome to submit, as there are fewer organized opportunities for them to show their work.”
The library will also host two open studios for teens to attend and work on their pieces:
- Teen Art Night: Monday, Feb. 10, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Youth Auditorium
- Use TCL’s art supplies or bring personal supplies to work on creative projects and contest submissions.
- Teen Creative Collective – Writing/Worldbuilding Club: Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Youth Auditorium
- Open studio where artists can work on creative projects, (e.g. skits, podcast scripts, writing, poems, art, worldbuilding, game developing etc.) and contest submissions.
Submissions will be accepted Feb. 1 through Feb. 28 from Teton County residents. The submission form can be found here. Students may submit only one entry per category. There is no cost to enter.
