WILSON, Wyo. — Teton Cotillion will host a Parent Reception on May 17 to help empower children for a lifetime of success.
As a cotillion director in Virginia for 15 years, Jean Ann Michie taught over 7,000 cotillion students the basics of table manners and ballroom dance. Mrs. Michie founded Teton Cotillion in 2023; despite its old school reputation, she believes that cotillion is more relevant now than ever.
“In our classes, kids step away from their phones and learn to engage face-to-face in all sorts of situations,” says Mrs. Michie.
While the core of Teton Cotillion will be conversational skills and table manners, Mrs. Michie also dips into ballroom dance to further the development of social graces. According to Mrs. Michie, “dance brings it all together; you have to converse while moving in tandem. It’s the ultimate social challenge!”
Teton Cotillion will offer classes for students in grades K-12.
The Reception will be at the Old Wilson Schoolhouse, 5655 Main Street, on May 17 from 7 to 8 p.m.
Teton Cotillion includes:
Primary Cotillion
Grades K through 5
Primary Cotillion will practice basic table manners, communication skills, introductions and patience as they navigate specific social situations. Ballroom dance steps will also be introduced.
Secondary Cotillion
Grades 6 through 8
Children will exercise meeting and greeting skills, explore making new friends, learn table manners during an elegant dinner, perform basic ballroom dance steps, practice networking and building relationships and review dress codes for all life events.
High School Cotillion
Grades 9 through 12
High schoolers will learn social comfortability and confidence, prepare for job and college interviews, refine fine dining skills, perfect the foxtrot, swing and cha cha dances, attend once in a lifetime events and meet with various business leaders to network.
