JACKSON, Wyo. — At their May 1 meeting, the Jackson Town Council recognized Teacher Appreciation Week, running nationally from May 8-12.

Town Councilmember Jim Rooks read the proclamation, which states, “Working in the Pre-K to 12 setting is a rewarding, yet challenging and stressful career and the extraordinary educators work tirelessly with students and families to keep things moving forward, despite such unpredictable times.”

Rooks noted that “strong teacher and student relationships significantly impact student engagement and achievement and have a lasting impact on students’ lives that extend well beyond their elementary and secondary school years.”

The proclamation also notes that educators’ commitment to students goes beyond the school day, as many school employees serve as coaches, mentors, role models and trusted confidants to students. Educators also work as partners with families by helping to navigate the unavoidable challenges of raising and educating children.

Teton County School District (TCSD) #1 employs a total of 571 community members; 308 of those employees are teachers/educators. Ten schools make up the district: Alta Elementary, Colter Elementary, Jackson Elementary, Kelly Elementary, Wilson Elementary, Moran Elementary, Munger Mountain Elementary, Jackson Hole Middle School, Jackson Hole High School and Summit Innovations School.

A number of private schools also operate in Jackson including Jackson Hole Community School, Jackson Hole Classical Academy, the Montessori School of the Tetons and Teton Science Schools.

According to TCSD #1 Executive Director of Communications and District Services Charlotte Reynolds, Superintendant Gillian Chapman will be delivering cookies and thank you signs to teachers and staff this week, by building. The TCSD #1 Board will recognize Teacher Appreciation Week during the May 10 meeting.
