JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County Search and Rescue released information this afternoon about two, almost simultaneous callouts yesterday, Aug. 25. The agency responded to a number of callouts last weekend as well.

Yesterday’s callouts make six calls for help in the span of seven days.

“This has been and will be the busiest year for callouts in TCSAR’s near 30-year history,” according to the media release from Matt Hansen, communications director for TCSAR Foundation.

Volunteers were reportedly sitting down for their annual TCSAR Famly Picnic at Miller Park when they were called to assist an injured hiker in Teton Canyon, just before 5 p.m.

The female hiker fell while hiking down from Table Mountain and expereinced a head injury during the fall.

“TCSAR sent a hasty team of three volunteers up the North Teton Canyon Trail. The initial response team arrived and kept the patient warm and provided cover in case of rain. A second group of volunteers arrived on scene with the wheeled litter, but by then, the patient was able to walk. The team helped her down the mountain and monitored her condition to the trailhead,” states the release.

Then at 6:15 p.m., a call came in about an injured male mountain biker who had crashed and sustained severe injuries on the Fuzzy Bunny Trail. According to the report, “the rider had been attempting a jump feature on Fuzzy Bunny–a downhill-specific mountain bike trail with steep drops and jumps–that has been the site of previous accidents, including one earlier this summer.”

The team responded with 23 volunteers who were drive directly to the patient utlizing the RZR and SAR truck. The team packaged the patient in a suck bag—a full body vacuum splint used to immobilize and transport a patient and carried him about 75 feet to the Jackson Hole Fire/EMS ambulance,” according to the release.

“Our team offers its sincere well wishes for a full recovery, and is grateful for the coordination with Jackson Hole Fire/EMS and Teton County Dispatch,” Hansen wrote.

TCSAR started the busy week of mission on Friday, Aug. 19, assiting on an interagency helicopter mission to pick up a trail runner in Alaska Basin. The runner was reportedly expereince extreme fatigue, dehyradtion and possible altitude sickeness.

On Saturday, Aug. 20, volunteers were alerted to a missing berry picker on the west side of the Tetons. The missing person was reportedly located without a full team response.

Then on Monday, Aug. 22, TCSAR responded to two callouts, an injured horseback rider in Ditch Creek and an injured mountain biker on Ferrins.
