Tap into mind, body and soul with Savion Glover

Next Wednesday and Thursday, March 7 and 8, musicians, movers, lifelong learners, and anyone eight years old or older whose curiosity is piqued can learn from Savion’s improvisational and holistic approach.

Glover’s passion for what he does is transparent in the classroom. Even if you’ve never tapped before (or entered a dance studio for that matter), you’ll discover that expression through rhythm is therapeutic for the mind, body and soul. In other words – stay in the moment and tap it out!

As a dancer and educator, Glover sees it as his duty and calling to carry the stories of tap dance greats forward and keep the art form relevant. Glover’s expressive and powerful rhythms mix styles of the grand masters of tap with hip-hop cool. If you grew up as a child of the ‘80’s or ‘90’s, there’s a good chance that you’ve been subconsciously inspired by Savion’s impressive skills during his recurring appearances on Sesame Street. His Broadway and film credits include The Tap Dance Kid, Black & Blue, Jelly’s Last Jam, Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk. And younger students might be able to relate to Savion through the acclaimed Academy Award-winning animation in Happy Feet and Happy Feet 2.

Savion’s passion for dance education will extend into a two-year commitment between Dancers’ Workshop and the artist. He’ll use tap and rhythm to engage the hearts and minds of Teton County middle and high school students. The ultimate goal: grades and outlooks improve along with students’ tap skills!

Savion “could arguably be the best tap dancer that ever lived. He’s a genius.” -Gregory Hines
