The wait is finally over! Grammy award-winning Reckless Kelly is closing out the 2019 Music on Main season with a show that will no doubt be one for the books. An Americana band originally from Idaho, Reckless Kelly is returning to their native roots for a night of real-deal musical talent. Reckless Kelly’s music is known for drawing inspiration from their heartland upbringings in the Sawtooth Mountains between Clayton and Challis, with a dose of Austin, Texas, country influence. You can see them perform this Thursday, August 15 in Victor City Park. Reckless Kelly bandmates and brothers Willy and Cody Braun gained a love of music from their dad, a professional musician and bandleader, and played with his band, Muzzie Braun and the Boys, giving them their first taste of being on the stage. An appreciation of and deep-seated understanding for great music was cemented into them both. They opened for legends like Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard and played on The Tonight Show. In 1996, the brothers headed to Austin and quickly carved out a niche of their own with their new-formed band Reckless Kelly, named for the legendary Australian highwayman Ned Kelly. Their music reflected the unapologetic attitude of the outlaw country scene with a gritty, hard-edged delivery that was authentically them. “In my perfect world, this is what country radio would sound like,” said Music Row Magazine of the band’s raw style. They found inspiration from notables like Townes Van Zandt, Steve Earle, and Billy Joe Shaver. Robert Earl Keen took them under his wing and paved a path forward. “Our goal was to make music that had a country vibe but a solid rock edge,” Cody Braun says. What followed was a string of celebrated albums beginning with Millican in 1998, Under the Table and Above the Sun (2003), Wicked Twisted Road (2005), Bulletproof (2008), Somewhere in Time (2010), the Grammy-nominated Good Luck & True Love (2011) and the Grammy- winning Long Night Moon (2013). For the past twenty years, Reckless Kelly has toured coast to coast playing sold-out shows and making a name for themselves as a mainstay in the Americana genre. In April, the band made their debut on the coveted Grand Ole Opry stage. And now they are making their way to Victor for a night you won’t soon forget. Dirt Road Band is kicking off the night on a musical journey on the dirt roads from Nashville to Memphis, to New Orleans and beyond. Dirt Road Band features local musicians Greg Creamer, Ed Domer, Ted Wells, and Ben Winship and explores the music of great songwriters and genres. Don’t miss this incredible end to a stellar season.
