JACKSON, Wyo. — As part of a year-long transit study, START Bus released a winter ridership public survey on Monday, March 17, to help determine to the future of public transportation in Jackson Hole.
START Transit Operations Director Bruce Abel told Buckrail that the winter survey, which is conducted through a consulting firm, is the first step in a 12-month study process to create a Transit Development Plan (TDP). Abel said that the TDP will provide an in-depth analysis of ridership, including the places in the community that people ride to and from.
“We are conducting a robust outreach program to ask the community what they would like transit to look like over the next five years,” Abel said. “We will put together ideas for what is currently working well, how things might work better and how things might be restructured, or not, to better serve the transit needs in the community.”
Abel said he was pleased that START achieved the milestone of breaking the “million rider barrier” in 2024. He added that people want to be actively involved in START’s study process, and that the survey has already generated 108 responses as of Thursday, March 20.
“We are very pleased of the results just after four days,” Abel said. “We’re trying to push this out to as many channels as we can.”
The survey runs until April 12. Abel said that START will also offer a ridership public survey this summer to acquire transit information throughout the year.
