JACKSON HOLE, WYO – St. John’s Medical Center received an “A” grade from the Leapfrog Group for the most recent assessment period. The hospital had previously received the highest grade last year as well. “A” is the highest grade given, a distinction earned by only one third of U.S. hospitals.
“This high grade from Leapfrog mirrors other accolades St. John’s has recently received,” said the hospital’s CEO Paul Beaupré, MD. “I continue to be impressed with the steadfast commitment of physicians and hospital staff to ensuring patient safety as a top priority. In the case of the Living Center [which also received an “A” grade], this is especially noteworthy given the limitations of a facility that is nearly 30 years old.”
The Leapfrog Group is a national patient safety watchdog, founded in 2000, that assigns grades based on publicly available hospital safety data.
“Hospitals that earn top marks nationally in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, have achieved the highest safety standards in the country,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “That takes commitment from every member of the hospital staff, who all deserve thanks and congratulations when their hospitals achieve an ‘A’ Safety Grade.”
Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 30 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public.
