Update: 6 p.m.

A “poorly placed amount of slightly burning garbage” resulted in a temporary lockdown at St. John’s Health this afternoon, according to Lt. Russ Ruschill of the Jackson Police Department (JPD).

Around 1:30 p.m. an individual reported two bags burning near a trash can to JPD. Both the Jackson Police Department and Jackson Hole Fire/EMS arrived on scene where they took necessary precautions by containing the perimeter around the incident and extinguished what was discovered to be a smoldering suitcase and backpack.

Lt. Ruschill confirmed that the incident was neither suspicious nor intentional. Ruschill explained that it was likely the personal belongings related to a vehicle rollover that occurred on Togwotee Pass yesterday.
