JACKSON, Wyo. — It was another victorious weekend for the Jackson Hole High School Speech and Debate Team. The team finished second in the 4A division at the Riverton Invitational at Riverton High School this past weekend.
Traveling with just 10 of the team’s 22 members, the team earned 58 points overall for the team sweepstakes, trailing Natrona County’s 74 points.
The Jackson seniors led the way this weekend. Team captain Lily Briggs had a rewarding meet, finishing as the champion in Congressional Debate. She went on to team up with fellow team captain Will Aepli to place second in Public Forum Debate.
Aepli also found success in Extemporaneous Speaking, finishing in second place. Junior Alexis Hernandez placed fourth in the same event while freshman Oscar Andersen reached the semi finals.
Hernandez went on to reach the semi finals in Original Oratory. Additionally, he teamed up with fellow junior Jheili Montiel Huerta to place third in Public Forum Debate. Montiel Huerta reached the semi final round of Original Oratory as well.
Junior Ventura Garcia Perez placed sixth in Congressional Debate while junior Maya Worcester reached the finals round in the event. Worcester went on to place sixth in Humorous Interpretation with her rendition of “Forensics Nightmare” by Deborah Karczewski.
Blanca Sartillo reached the semi finals of Program Oral Interpretation and junior Julieta Anaya reached the semi finals of Poetry Interpretation.
“ We have just two regular season tournaments left before our State and Districts tournaments,” said Coach Londe Gagnon.”We learned a lot this weekend and continue to grow as a team. I am excited to see how we can all come together as a group to make a strong showing at these upcoming culminating meets.”
