JACKSON, Wyo. — A snowboarder was found unconscious at Grand Targhee Resort and later announced dead on Saturday.

“We regret to report the death of one of our patrons on Saturday, January 2, 2021,” Grand Targhee spokesperson Jennie White told Buckrail.

According to White, Grand Targhee Ski Patrol responded to a call about an unconscious snowboarder in the East Woods. Ski Patrol then took over CPR from guests who were on the scene, but they were unable to revive the snowboarder.

Jackson Hole News and Guide reported that the man was identified as John Jurgens, 47, of Florida.

The Teton County Sheriff’s Office said that the cause of death is still unknown and that they are wrapping up the investigation.

“Grand Targhee Resort extends our deepest sympathy and condolences to the guest’s family and friends,” said White.
