JACKSON, Wyo. — Snow King’s (SK) new eight-passenger Leitner-Poma gondola will service skiers and riders for the very first time today, Dec. 27.

“Snow King Gondola will open to skier traffic today by noon, advanced skiers only.  The Cougar Lift, Magic Carpet, King Tubes and Cowboy Coaster are all open for the season,” said SK in an update at 8:34 a.m. this morning. “Rafferty lift will open soon.”

It’s been a slow and gradual opening at SK this season, with adequate snowfall just recently arriving in the valley. The mountain currently reports 10 inches of snow at the base and 21 inches at the summit.

On Dec. 18, the gondola opened for scenic rides but did not yet service skiers and riders.

The new gondola replaces the former Summit lift. Construction was underway this summer to make way for the new gondola, relocating the Cougar lift and removing the Summit lift.
