JACKSON, Wyo. — The new gondola at Snow King opened this morning at 11 a.m. to its first sightseeing riders.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony kicked off at 11 a.m. with Mayor Hailey Morton Levinson doing the honors. Lazy Eyes played live music at the base while people lined up to take their first spin on the new gondola.

Scenic rides will be available daily starting Dec. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Snow King has yet to open its lifts, beyond the magic carpet to skiers and riders due to lack of snowfall.

The mountain is reporting four inches of snow at the base and 13 inches at the summit.

The gondola replaces the former summit lift. Construction was underway this summer to make way for the new gondola, relocating the cougar lift and removing the summit lift.
