American Legion Post 43 hosted its annual Veterans Day event in George Washington Memorial Park.

Veterans Day honors all who have served in the U.S. military. It is celebrated on Nov. 11, the day World War I ended in 1918. President Woodrow Wilson celebrated Nov. 11, 1919 as Armistice Day. Congress recognized it as an official federal holiday in 1938, and in 1954 the name was changed to Veterans Day to honor veterans of all U.S. conflicts.

In years past, crowds have had to brave snowy conditions to attend this annual outdoor event. This year, temperatures were milder, with more of an autumnal atmosphere on the square.
