JACKSON, Wyo. — Community members came out to celebrate the grand opening of the new Teton County/Jackson Recreation Center on Thursday, May 30.

After two years of construction and planning, the public joined elected officials and Town/County staff for a ribbon cutting ceremony. Mayor Hailey Morton Levinson cut the ribbon, opening the doors for the curious crowd.

Buckrail photographer Nick Sulzer joined residents in exploration of the expanded facility, which now houses a 9,695 foot climbing wall, fitness facility, indoor track, daycare, additional gymnasium and outdoor splash pad. Due to continued construction, the outdoor aquatic splash pad will not open until early summer.
The building’s main entrance now faces King Street. Upon entering the building, a 40-foot long mosaic mural, called “Making Tracks,” made from thousands and thousands of hand-cut pieces of ceramic tile, glass tile, stained glass and mirror, greets people as they enter the facility.

According to Jackson Hole Public Art, Stacia Goodman of Minneapolis, Minnesota created this playful public art installation in the Recreation Center lobby with input from local youth.
“The design of this sweeping mosaic mural was inspired by what makes Jackson a truly dynamic and wonderful place to experience, as a resident or visitor,” Goodman told Jackson Hole Public Art. “Beyond beautification, the artwork’s mission is to inspire a healthy, active lifestyle and to nourish community connections at the modernized Teton County/Jackson Recreation Center.”

The Recreation Center is free to the public from Thursday, May 30 at 5 p.m. through Saturday, June 1.
