JACKSON, Wyo. — For the 14th year, the National Museum of Wildlife Art hosted its Plein Air Fest on Saturday, June 14, bringing the artists and their paints outside to create under the blue sky.

Buckrail photographer Nick Sulzer caught some of the pieces on camera while guests perused the finished art.

This year, nearly 50 artists were invited by the museum to paint new pieces on the outdoor sculpture trail en plein air, French for “in the open air.”

Artists can participate in one of two categories: the “plein air” division, which allows them to paint any regional scene and begin the painting anywhere in the vicinity, or in the “al fresco” division, which allows artists to use reference photos and paint any subject. The “Best in Show” award winner was to be chosen from the plein air participants, and the al fresco category was not judged.

Museum guests watched the artists at work in the morning, then were able to bid on the paintings during a silent auction later that day.
