JACKSON, Wyo. — Early last month, Jackson Hole Public Art selected ten artists to participate in WildWalls, an annual event during which local artists transform Jackson’s blank exterior walls into an open-air gallery from the months of June through Sept.
Since May 17, local artist Katy Ann Fox, has been crafting a mural on the wall behind Trio off of S. Glenwood St. She plans to complete the piece by June 7.
While the nine other selected WildWalls artists will have temporary installations, Fox’s will be permanent.
Of her mural, Fox finds it most intriguing that such a colorful wall will inhabit the streets of Jackson when summer folds and the colors in town dull for the wintertime.
“There’s a sense of place and a sense of color in-wonderment that is in this place, and people have pointed out how warm, welcoming and silly this is going to look in the winter when this is all snow. It’s just so much color and is so alive.”
Fox explained how JH Public Art allowed her to take direction with the piece while also remaining cognizant of the events focus; to evoke a connection between art, wildlife and science.
