TETON PASS, Wyo. — Crews were hard at work digging and clearing the huge pile of snow that slid off Glory Bowl during avalanche mitigation on Monday morning. The snow covered WY22 over Teton Pass and the debris pile was approximately 30 feet tall, per the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT).
Neighboring Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) brought up equipment Monday afternoon to assist from the western side after WYDOT asked for help. WYDOT faced a considerably larger task than expected after performing avalanche control in the early hours on Monday.
“In our usual ‘No Boundaries’ mindset, eastern Idaho is here to help through today, tonight and until the task is done,” reads a Facebook post from ITD.
The Pass was projected to remain closed until Tuesday afternoon while the road was cleared. However, cleanup teams finished sooner than expected and the Pass reopened on Monday evening, 14 hours after being closed.
Wet, heavy snow up high has led to dangerous snowpack conditions in the Tetons.
