ALPINE, Wyo. — A driver who crashed and rolled a truck down an embankment into the Snake River yesterday escaped with minor injuries and a ticket.
Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) responded to the crash in the Snake River Canyon during the early afternoon on Monday, June 29. According to a press release from WHP, the Ford F-250 was traveling southbound on US89 when the driver lost control of the vehicle and drifted into the northbound lane. The pickup truck sideswiped a car-carrier trailer before crashing through the guardrail and over the embankment near the Big Kahuna pullout. The vehicle rolled two to three times before landing upright in the Snake River.
“Despite the intense nature of the crash, the driver, who wore their seatbelt, walked away with just some cuts, bruises, and a citation,” WHP said.
The driver was able to get out of the vehicle on their own and was assisted by first responders. The driver was taken to Alpine for medical care, was treated and released. Troopers gave the driver a citation for failing to maintain a lane.
“The WHP believes the fact the driver wore their seatbelt was a primary reason they survived such a violent crash,” WHP wrote. “Pay attention, drive for conditions and always buckle up.”
Afternoon traffic in the Snake River Canyon was impacted by the search and rescue operation.
