JACKSON, Wyo. — Want to learn about the geological history of the Tetons? Local geologist Dominique Brough is offering a free self-guided audio driving tour of Grand Teton National Park for anyone looking to change a scenic drive into a “2.7-billion-year journey through one of the most dramatic geological stories on Earth.” The tour became available on Monday.
The tour follows the outer park road from from the Jackson to Moran Junction. The tour can also be taken online.
“Earthquakes, ancient seas, breakups of supercontinents, and successive ice ages carved the canyons, formed the lakes, and filled the valley with thousands of feet of glacial debris,” Brough shared in a release. “What looks like scenery is actually a record of deep time. You might never look at rocks the same way again.”
The audio tour was made possible by a grant funded by Visit Jackson Hole.
“I’m excited for people to use their imaginations and re-create the forces and conditions that created the iconic landscape of Grand Teton National Park,” Brough wrote.
Those interested in the tour can access it online here or through the TravelStorys app on iPhone or Android.
