GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK — Earlier this month, Grand Teton National Park (GTNP) posted a primer to learn the different names for various baby animals that can be seen in the park.

“Baby animals have some pretty unique names!” GTNP wrote. “You might already know a few.”

A calf, for example, could be a baby elk, moose, or bison. A fawn is a baby deer or pronghorn. Wolves, coyotes, and even bats have babies called pups. A baby fox and a baby weasel are both called kits. A cub can be a baby bear or a baby mountain lion, which can also be called a kitten.

But some baby animal terms might not be as familiar.

Snowshoe hare babies are called leverets.
