According to the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce, the annual elk antler auction raised $109,131.75, selling 6,045 pounds of antlers.

“It’s a strong result that speaks to the dedication of everyone involved,” the Chamber’s Director of Events and Communications John Morgan told Buckrail via email.

Proceeds are divided between the Boy Scouts, who collect the antlers from the National Elk Refuge, and the Refuge, with 25% directed to Friends of Scouting and 75% going to the Refuge.

“The energy was high and the community spirit really shone through,” Morgan said.

The first Boy Scout Elk Antler Auction was held in 1968.

This year’s fundraising and antler poundage totals were down slightly from last year’s, when 8,170 pounds raised over $200k.

Residents and visitors took their time to peruse the selection of antlers, moose paddles, horns, bison skulls and bighorn sheep skulls. The gathered antlers, horns and skulls are considered a prized commodity and can be used as decoration, in artwork applications and as safe dog chews.

Until next year, Elk Fest!
