JACKSON, Wyo. — It was double happiness for skywatchers in the month of May: The moon reached peak fullness twice!
The full moon graced the sky on May 1 and on May 31. The second full moon in a single month is known as a blue moon. Buckrail photographer Nick Sulzer stepped out Sunday night and pointed his camera skyward.

Because the moon was near the farthest point from Earth in its orbit, it appeared smaller and dimmer to the naked eye. This phenomenon is known as a micromoon, as opposed to a supermoon, which happens when the moon reaches the closest point in its orbit.
The next full moon will occur on June 29.
