JACKSON, Wyo. — After initially receiving approval from the town council to run a modified shootout on the town square, organizers announced today they are pulling the plug.
A recent spike in COVID-positive cases in Teton County, and visible evidence of a fairly robust tourism season well underway, has now caused a cancellation of 2020 season of the western gunfighter reenactment play put on for tourists for 65 years running.
Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce, Jackson Hole Playhouse, and the Town of Jackson have unanimously made the decision to postpone the Town Square Shootout for the remainder of the 2020 summer with an expected return in May of 2021. The decision to cancel this treasured Jackson Hole tradition was made with the health and safety of the community and visitors to it at the forefront.
“We feel this is the most responsible solution to minimizing large gatherings and crowds on and around the Town Square,” shared Britney Magleby, the events coordinator at the Jackson Hole Chamber. “We look forward to the reemergence of this 65-year-old tradition next year.”
