Two days of inspiring films, networking, workshops, parties and more.

JACKSON, Wyo. — Mountains of Color Film Festival (MOC), the first film festival dedicated to celebrating BIPOC+ (Black, Indigenous, People of Color, + other intersecting marginalized groups) in outdoors, adventure and conservation filmmaking, is returning to Jackson Hole, Wyoming, June 8 through June 9. In its second year, the festival will feature a multi-day format complete with group outdoor activities, filmmaking workshops, public film screenings and an after-hours dance party.

Founded in 2023 in Jackson by filmmakers Sofía Jaramillo, Jr. Rodriguez and Leslie Bahn Steen, the first-of-its-kind national film festival calls attention to and celebrates the diversity of the outdoor community through inspirational film, panel discussions, filmmaking, production and inclusivity workshops. Mountains of Color seeks to provide a platform for underrepresented outdoor communities to present diverse thoughts and perspectives on the outdoors, adventure and conservation in front of and behind the lens.

“As filmmakers of color, we know firsthand the barriers to entry for BIPOC+ into the outdoor film industry,” Mountains of Color co-Founders, Jr Rodriguez and National Geographic Explorer, Sofía Jaramillo said. “We’re organizing this event not only to showcase BIPOC+ stories, but also to create more spaces for BIPOC+ filmmakers to shine and see their work highlighted.”

“We’re so excited to share incredible films about the healing power of nature, triumph and self-empowerment,” Mountains of Color co-Founder, Leslie Steen, said. “Every film has relatability to a large audience whether its vulnerability, passion and a view for the future of the outdoors.”

Mountains of Color Film Festival will be held June 7-10 at The Center for Arts and The Virginian Lodge. Special screenings, filmmakers workshops and panels, hikes, morning yoga and more will be available to the public. Two evening film screenings will be presented from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at The Center of the Arts Theater on Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9, and will include special appearances by select filmmakers and film subjects. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and films will begin at 7 p.m.

The 2024 Mountains of Color Film Festival is funded by grants from the Bronco Wild Fund, Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Board, National Geographic Society, Community Foundation of Jackson Hole and Wyoming Humanities Council, and sponsorship support from Outside, The North Face, Virginian Lodge, Purple Orange PR, Grand Teton National Park Foundation, Stio, Flylow, Redford Center, Orvis, Nemo and other national and local businesses. It is a program of Jackson Hole Trout Unlimited, the festival’s fiscal sponsor.

The festival is committed to being accessible for the community. Free and discounted tickets are available for the film screenings and workshops. For more information please reach out to info@mountainsofcolor.org.
