JACKSON, Wyo. — The temporary dog park located at the Teton County Fairgrounds is set to close next week. The last day for public use will be Wednesday, April 27.
This year, Teton County Parks and Recreation Department will take down the dog park earlier than usual to accommodate for the arrival of the elk antler hunt participants. Parks and Rec generally removes the temporary dog park to align with the end of winter wildlife closures in Teton County, which occurs each year on May 1.
Currently, the Fairgrounds serve as the only temporary dog park in town. For several years now, the location of an off-leash dog park in Jackson has been a topic of public debate.
While a majority of the community has expressed their support for a dog park in the Parks & Rec system, in October, the Parks & Rec Advisory Board hit pause on off-leash dog parks as a high-priority item to instead direct focus on the expansion of the recreation center facility.
However, Parks and Rec Director, Steve Ashworth says that this prioritization is short-term and that the topic will likely be addressed in the future.
