JACKSON, Wyo. — Teton County Search & Rescue (TCSAR) volunteers had a busy start to the weekend with a call on Friday involving an injured hiker near Old Pass Road, a call on Saturday involving a cyclist near Mosquito Lake and a second call on Saturday afternoon on the west side of the Tetons to assist an injured hiker.
According to a press release from TCSAR Foundation, the call on Friday came in just before noon from a local woman who was hiking with her dog on the History Trail off Old Pass Road when she came down with a lower leg injury. Volunteers responded using the RZR vehicle and transported her using a wheeled litter back to the RZR and down Old Pass Road in two and a half hours.
On Saturday, volunteers were alerted at about 7 a.m. about a male cyclist who was visiting from out of state and was having medical issues at Mosquito Lake off Union Pass Road. Volunteers met the patient and his riding partner at Mosquito Lake on the RZR and transported both people out of the backcountry to a waiting SAR truck. The mission wrapped in about eight and a half hours due to the remoteness of the area and the long drive back to Jackson, TCSAR Foundation said.
The second call on Saturday occurred at about 12:25 p.m. and involved a man who sustained a lower leg injury while hiking on the North Teton Trail on Table Mountain. The man’s hiking companions provided initial treatment but needed help to get him out of the backcountry. Volunteers used a wheeled litter to get him about a mile down to the trailhead. That mission took just over five hours to complete.
