JACKSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) has closed all lanes of US89 over Salt River Pass, south of Afton.

At 6:57 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, WYDOT added an incident to its online travel map stating that the road is closed due to the Willow Creek Fire. The memo says that the highway is closed from Afton to the Idaho state line, and the estimated opening time is unknown.

The 1,700-acre blaze is burning in the Greys River Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, southwest of Smoot.

“Parking on the roadway is prohibited and delays WYDOT from opening the road,” the website reads.

Visit the WYDOT map website for updates on travel conditions. See Teton Interagency Fire’s wildfire website for updates.

This is a developing story. Buckrail will provide updates as information becomes available.
