JACKSON HOLE, WYO – Crews from Wadsworth Brothers Construction Company and the Wyoming Department of Transportation will be moving traffic onto the new bridges at the Snake River Bridge and Flat Creek Bridge beginning today. Work is currently being completed on paving and striping for the new detour o S. Highway 89 between South Park Loop Road and Hoback Junction.
“Hopefully we can get traffic moved over soon,” resident engineer Bob Hammond said.
Similar to the detour off the side of the highway motorists faced last year, 30 mph advisory speed signs will be posted for drivers.
WYDOT would like to remind drivers to slow down when driving in construction zones and be alert and cautious of roadside workers.
The purpose of the Jackson South project is to resolve existing roadway deficiencies while safely and efficiently accommodating current and future traffic volumes and improving system linkage.
Primary transportation needs that were addressed included:
- Improve system linkage
- Provide system continuity
- Accommodate travel demand
- Correct roadway and bridge deficiencies
- Accommodate non-motorized transportation modes
- Improve traffic safety
- Reduce geologic hazard potential
Several committees were formed to make sure agencies, local government, and community groups were included in the planning and development of the projects.
