JACKSON, Wyo. — Jackson Hole is producing a talented crop of young authors.
Fifteen students from Teton County either placed first or received honorable mention in the statewide Young Authors Contest. Kindergarten through 12th grade students are encouraged to submit original works of poetry, fiction, nonfiction and graphic novel to a county-level writing contest coordinated by nonprofit Jackson Hole Writers. Winners from the county round are then submitted to the statewide contest.
“The enthusiasm of students, teachers, administrators, parents and community members is so inspiring to me,” Jackson Hole Writers Executive Director Matt Daly said. “I believe wholeheartedly that writing matters, that writing enhances and enlivens our communities, and that celebrating young writers is an essential to maintaining the importance of writing in our lives. Sharing results and sending off our local winners to the state contest makes me so happy and hopeful for our community.”
Students and their families can save the date for a celebration of the contest results on May 20, including an award ceremony and open mic from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Commons.
Congratulations, students!
