JACKSON, WY – The music was blaring, hundreds of people danced and cheered and pedaled their hearts out. The energy poured out of the Dancers’ Workshop studio. It was 9 a.m. on Sunday morning.
You can only find a party like this so early in the morning once a year: at Rock the Ride.
The fourth annual fundraiser for St. John’s Hospital Foundation’s, founded and hosted by Revolution Indoor Cycling, drew a record number of participants — 225 (full disclosure: Buckrail staffer Shannon Sollitt participated in this year’s Rock the Ride). It also raised a record-breaking amount of money. So far, $83,107 have been raised toward the Foundation’s stroke and cardiac fund. The fundraising period officially ends Sunday, March 17.
Revolution Indoor Cycling owner Julie Guttormson started the event four years ago, 10 years after suffering a stroke at just 31 years old. Now, it’s more than an event. It’s a movement to raise awareness and help others heal.
It’s also a party. From 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Guttormson and her team turn the music all the way up. Teams take turns pedaling their hearts out, and when they’re not pedaling they’re dancing and cheering. There are awards for best costume, best team name, most spirit, most miles pedaled, and more.
So, without further ado, here are some of this year’s Rock the Ride champions:
Most Funds Raised: The Pacemakers, $10,685 (Patrick King, MK King, Sarah Peterson and Gov Carrigan)
