JACKSON, Wyo. — On Tuesday, May 7, the Jackson Police Department inducted Jackson Police Officer Raquel Barnett into its ranks.
“New to the Patrol Division, but not new to the Town of Jackson,” the Jackson Police Department said via Facebook. “Officer Barnett was sworn in as a police officer today, after transferring from a Community Service Officer role. Congratulations on your new position, we are so happy to have you with us!”
Jackson Police Chief Michelle Weber told Buckrail that she is really excited for the next step in Barnett’s career.
According to Weber, Barnett will be attending the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy in Douglas, Wy. this May, where she will undergo officer training for three months. Upon completion, she will return to Jackson and train in the field for another three months, before working as a solo police officer.
During the May 6 Regular Town Council meeting, Mayor Hailey Morton Levinson congratulated Barnett and her transition into Jackson’s police force. Morton Levinson said that Barnett served as a Jackson Police Department Community Service Officer for the past year, and previously served as detention deputy at the jail in Laramie.
The Mayor also proclaimed National Police Week to be observed from May 12 to May 18. She commemorated and thanked all of Jackson’s police officers, past and present, “who by their faithful and loyal devotion to their responsibilities have rendered a dedicated service to their communities.”
According to Town, in 2023, the Jackson Police Department responded to an average of 33 calls for service each day, which included 574 vehicle collisions, 195 medical assists, 309 alarm responses, 2,927 traffic stops and 138 stops for driving under the influence, among other calls.
