JACKSON, Wyo. — A group of Jackson Hole High School students is organizing a rally against gun violence in the wake of a number of mass shootings across the country, according to an email from Teton County Democrats.

The rally is planned for Monday, June 6 at 6 p.m. on the Jackson Town Square.

According to the email, the rally coincides with the regular Town Council meeting, “as the organizers feel it is necessary to voice their perspective as the students of our town.”

“Last week, 19 elementary-age students and two teachers were killed in Uvalde, Texas. This shooting marked one of 27 school shootings this year. This needs to end now,” states the email.

According to the Associated Press, 169 people have been killed in school shootings since 1999, when two students killed 12 of their peers and a teacher at Colorado’s Columbine High School. Since then, there have been 14 shootings that have claimed four or more victims’ lives at U.S. schools and colleges.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, 20 mass shootings have happened since Uvalde.
