JACKSON, Wyo. — Following news of Melody Ranch being under a boil order, a Buckrail reader reached out to share that Rafter J is also under a boil order for an unrelated issue.
Rafter J’s water system was shut down on Thursday, May 29, following a computer failure at the well house, according to the order. The failure led to a loss of pressure in the distribution system, which can cause such issues as “backpressure, back-siphonage, or a net movement of water from outside the pipe to the inside through cracks, breaks or joints in the distribution system that are common in all water systems,” the order states.
“Such a system failure carries with it a high potential that fecal contamination or other disease-causing organisms could enter the distribution system,” according to the order.
As such, Rafter J residents are advised to boil water for at least three minutes before using it, or to use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes and food preparation until further notice, according to the order.
While the issue with the computer has been repaired and the water system has been restored, the Environmental Protection Agency requires two consecutive days of clean water samples before the boil order can be lifted, per the document. Residents will be informed when the order is lifted.
