JACKSON, Wyo. — The Teton County Library has voted to offer the public the opportunity to comment on three new library policies for 45 days until Feb. 10, 2023, before the board will vote on whether to adopt the policies.

Two of the proposed policies would replace current policies: the Unattended Children & Vulnerable Adults Policy would replace the current Library Policy for Children, and the Community Bulletin Board & Display Policy would replace the current Display Policy. The third policy, the Library Gallery Exhibit Policy, is new.

  • The Bulletin Board & Display Policy is meant to establish places where community-related services, events and programs can be advertised and displayed.
  • Library Gallery Exhibit Policy was proposed to establish a set of rules and regulations for the library’s art gallery, a place for artists, and organizations to display their work for the public to access for free during the library’s regular hours.
  • Unattended Children & Vulnerable Adults Policy. Children under the age of eight and vulnerable adults of any age must have a parent, guardian, or responsible caregiver who is at least 12 years of age or older and who remains in the immediate vicinity of the child or vulnerable adult at all times.

As staff works toward meeting the goal of assessing all of our policies for effectiveness, we’re finding that several are in need of updating to reflect current library and public facility trends, and several that have become irrelevant over time,” Library Director Kip Roberson said. “Our new or improved policies will help guide our decision-making as we move into our 85th year.”

During their December meeting, the Board adopted the proposed Library Use Policy & Rules and repealed seven policies. Some of the repealed policies were replaced within the Library Use Policy. The full list of the library’s current policies can be seen here.

Community members are offered a final opportunity to share their comments during a public hearing via Zoom or in person at the Library Board meeting on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2023 at the library.
