Police chase ends with arrest in Afton

STAR VALLEY, WYO – A Star Valley man is in custody following a short pursuit early Wednesday morning.

Timothy Peterson, 42, of Afton, was arrested after he led law enforcement on a chase that began after he was pulled over for a traffic stop just outside of the city.

The pursuit began at 7:36am after a Wyoming State Trooper attempted to stop Peterson for an obscured license plate on his 2007 GMC Sierra truck near milepost 89 on US Highway 89 north of Afton.

After stopping Peterson, the trooper received information the driver had a suspended driver’s license. When the trooper attempted to arrest the driver for the suspended license, Peterson would not exit his vehicle. Instead, he took off, driving toward Afton.

The trooper pursued only until Peterson approached town limits. At that point he broke off the chase for the safety of the public. Afton Police Department and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies were notified and observed the vehicle abandoned at a residence in Afton a short time later.

Law Enforcement was able to confirm Peterson was inside a residence where the vehicle was discovered. Troopers and Afton Police officers were able to place Peterson under arrest without further incident.

Peterson was charged with eluding, reckless driving, driving on a suspended driver’s license, and interference with a peace officer.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Afton Police Department assisted Patrol with this event
