Pinedale rallies for local family battling cancer

PINEDALE, Wyo. — Pinedale community members are throwing a 5k fun run this weekend for a very personal cause.

The run/walk/bike event is a fundraiser for Pinedale local Wyitt Goddard and his family. Goddard was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive bone cancer, two weeks ago.

Goddard and his wife, Arlaina LeBleu-Goddard, are both Pinedale locals with deep roots in the community. They have been married for six years and have a 6-month-old son, Jett. Goddard has worked for Specialty drywall for seven years, and Arlaina is a part-time graphic designer for the Museum of the Mountain Man.

Goddard’s long treatment journey begins this week. He has at least nine months of chemo ahead of him at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City. If the tumor shrinks enough after 12 weeks of chemo, doctors may be able to remove it. Otherwise, they may have to amputate his lower leg.

Friends have come together to help the family pay for medical treatment and basic living expenses during this difficult time. The 5k fun run is planned for this Saturday, Oct. 12. Registration is at 9:30 a.m., the run/walk/bike will start at 10. Families and kids are welcomed and encouraged.

The event starts and ends at the American Legion Park. Water, coffee, and donuts will be provided.

A GoFundMe account has also been created for the Goddard family. Donors have already raised more than $13,000 of the $20,000 goal.
