YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK — Actor Pierce Brosnan has issued an apology for trespassing onto a thermal area in Yellowstone National Park, after paying a fine for the incident last week.
Brosnan, known for his work in James Bond and “Mamma Mia!” films, was fined upwards of $1,500 for standing on a thermal feature in Mammoth Hot Springs and posting a photo posing in the off-limits area in November of 2023.
“As an environmentalist I have the utmost respect for and love of our natural word,” Brosnan posted to his Instagram page. “However, I made an impulsive mistake — one that I do not take lightly — when entering a thermal area covered in snow in Yellowstone National Park to take a photograph. I did not see a ‘No Trespassing’ sign posted that warned of danger nor did I hike in the immediate area.”
Brosnan posted the apology along with two photos: one of Glacier National Park and one of Yellowstone’s Mammoth Hot Springs, the site of the incident.
“I deeply regret my transgression and offer my heartfelt apologies to all for trespassing in this sensitive area,” Brosnan continued. “Yellowstone and all our National Parks are to be cared for and preserved for all to enjoy. #StayOnThePath.”
