JACKSON, Wyo. – Pet Place Plus, a pet supply store in Jackson, is donating dog food to those struggling to afford it during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jessica Borneman, general manager at Pet Place Plus, explained the store’s motivations for helping the community with their signature dog food at this time, “Right before the coronavirus became a threat we had placed an order so we have the food available to donate.” She goes on, “We know a lot of people are out of work due to a situation that is out of their control and it is a stressful time. The community has supported us for over ten years and we feel it is the right thing to do.”

The food is meant for those who need a hand covering the costs of owning a pet while worrying about other bills. For some pet owners, it can be crucial during this time of uncertainty when many businesses are closed and a lot more unemployed.

“We hope to help those who might be considering rehoming or surrendering their dog at the shelter because they can’t afford to feed it. Perhaps someone is deciding between buying food for themselves or dog food,” Borneman said. “Perhaps someone is trying to make sure they can pay their rent. Whoever is in need of dog food may receive this help. We know it can be hard to ask for help. So if they know of someone in need and can get the food to them, then we want them to also feel welcome to participate.”

Pet Place Plus will be bagging food into large and small bags. The small bags are meant for smaller dogs while large is for larger dogs. Starting on Monday, those bags will be placed on the porch of the dog house outside of the store, located at 1645 Martin Lane.

Borneman stated, “This will be done on the honor system, we would like to think we can trust our community. We have 800 pounds of food available to donate.”

If you are interested in helping Pet Place Plus make more donations, you can add to the donated food supplies.

“I’ve had many customers ask how they can help,” Borneman said. “If anyone wishes to help with a gift of dog or cat food, please call our store to purchase at a discount of 20% off. We can add it to the donated food available for pickup outside or make it available to the person they wish to receive it.”
