JACKSON, Wyo. — The Town of Jackson is looking to improve pedestrian crosswalks this fall and has added the line item to the budget for the 2027 Fiscal year (FY27). About $1 million of the budget has been set aside to replace older sidewalks, curbs, gutters and adding stormwater drains on Glenwood St., Cache St. and Broadway Ave.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is also gearing up to make some updates to pedestrian crosswalks starting this October, according to WYDOT Resident Engineer Bob Hammond. While the Town project and the WYDOT works are funded separately, they address similar issues.

This October, WYDOT will add Americans with Disabilities Act compliant corners and crosswalks at the intersection of Broadway Ave. and Millward St. Work will also take place at that intersection to fix a traffic signal, which was damaged, according to Hammond.

Director of Public Works Johnny Ziem lauded the work that’s expected to be done. “It’s going to be a great project,” Ziem told Buckrail. “They’re doing some [much needed] pedestrian improvements.”

The work will continue “until the snow flies,” said Hammond, and will start back up again next spring when the snow melts.
