JACKSON, Wyo. — Parks & Rec has proposed a 1-acre off-leash fenced area in May Park with areas for large and small dogs and two smaller off-leash fenced areas: Powderhorn Park and Miller Park.
Dog parks belong in the Parks and Rec System
The Jackson community identified off-leash fenced areas in the top three priorities for Parks and Rec according to their approved 2018. With more than 10,000 dogs living in our valley, off-leash facilities offer safe recreation for families with dogs while reducing conflict with wildlife on trails. Currently, all Jackson parks prohibit dogs.
Multi-generational use
Off-leash fenced areas offer vital space for all ages and abilities. Park users find a sense of community through their common interest in dogs.
11 acres, one small dog area
May Park is the largest park within the Parks and Rec System, boasting 11.5 acres. Currently undeveloped, this proposal will not take away space from other users.
More dog parks, fewer crowds
Approving all three off-leash fenced areas will disperse usage and give park users options for walking to the designated dog areas.
