JACKSON, Wyo. — The Pack Trail Fire exploded in size over the weekend, forcing residents who had returned to their homes after Fish Creek Fire evacuations to leave the area once more. Both fires continue to burn in the Jackson Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, southeast of Moran.

An update from BTNF on Sunday, Sept. 29. estimated the Pack Trail Fire’s size at 11,881 acres. On Friday, BTNF had said it was 450 acres in size.

“The Fish Creek Fire and Pack Trail Fire are exhibiting extreme fire behavior,” BTNF posted to Facebook on Sunday. BTNF noted that significant winds had grounded aviation resources. A Complex Incident Management Team is now handling the two fires.

Fremont County Emergency Management issued an urgent evacuation notice on Sunday afternoon, affecting residences in the Brooks Lake Road, East and West Pinnacle Drive, Breccia Drive areas, along with US26 from mileposts 30 to 42: Long Creek subdivision, Lava Mountain subdivisions, Triangle C Ranch, old KOA, Bourbon subdivision, Timberline Ranch and Rawhide Ranch.

The American Red Cross opened an emergency shelter at Warm Valley Lodge Assisted Living in Dubois, welcoming people and pets. Livestock can be sheltered at the Dubois Rodeo Grounds. See The Fremont County Emergency Management’s Facebook page for more details.

US26 over Togwotee Pass was forced to close on Sunday afternoon due to smoky conditions, but reopened later in the day.
