JACKSON, Wyo. — The Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) issued a special statement today, Oct. 15, with regards to the Pack Trail Fire size and smoke impact.
According to the BTNF, smoke from the Pack Trail Fire has caused an Air Quality Alert to be in effect until at least 1 p.m. today for much of central and western Wyoming. Smoke draining into Jackson Hole has been present for an extended number of days, and BTNF confirms areas of “unhealthy” air quality will persist until late afternoon.
East of the Pack Trail Fire, Dubois is expected to experience poor visibility and “unhealthy” conditions at times until Wednesday, Oct. 16.
Since Buckrail‘s last update on the Pack Trail Fire on Monday, Oct. 14, when the Fire was reported to be 77,559 acres in size, BTNF reports today that the Pack Trail Fire is now 86,555 acres. Preliminary analysis of satellite imagery indicates that 6,800 acres burned just yesterday.
“Very active behavior was observed on Monday along the southwest perimeter,” BTNF writes. “As winds gradually shift from the NW to the SW, active fire behavior is expected on Tuesday.”
