JACKSON, Wyo. — Warm, dry conditions are expected to continue through the weekend, which could spell trouble for the Pack Trail Fire.

Bridger-Teton National Forest shared a fire update on Friday, Oct. 11, forecasting “significant fire behavior” while warm and dry conditions persist.

“Today’s weather and unstable atmosphere brings potential for significant fire behavior,” BTNF’s update reads. “Today will be sunny with temperatures in the mid 60s. The wind will be from the west/southwest at 12-16 mph with gusts up to 27.”

BTNF said firefighting crews are continuing to address hotspots and monitor the fire. Its footprint is now 68,956 acres, with 64% confinement. The fire has continued to move in the Union Pass vicinity, but it is holding north of Union Pass Road, BTNF said.

“On the west flank, firefighters continue to patrol the Burnt Ridge area, where fire continues to slowly creep downhill,” BTNF’s update reads. “Structure crews continue to wrap buildings, install hose lays and sprinklers at Elk Track Ranch and in the Gros Ventre area. On the east side, there was active fire behavior overnight and is expected to continue today.”

All evacuation orders remain unchanged. A new forest closure order went into effect on Oct. 9, which will be effective until Nov. 1, unless rescinded. Track the Pack Trail Fire on InciWeb. Check on local air quality using AirNow.Gov. Find tips for dealing with wildfire smoke here.
