JACKSON, Wyo. — The winter overnight parking ban on town streets will be lifted early this spring, thanks to warm weather and lack of snow.

“Our community asked and the Town is answering!” said Town of Jackson (TOJ) in a Thursday news release. “The right-of-way is a public good, and the Town is always working to manage public assets for the greatest community benefit.”

The seasonal parking ban will be lifted at the end of the day on Friday, and on-street parking will be permitted for up to 72 hours at a time until Nov. 1. Also included in the announcement from TOJ was an update about the Home Ranch parking lot. Beginning on April 15, the parking area on the corner of North Cache Street and East Gill Ave. will transition to three-hour parking between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. throughout the year. The Home Ranch lot includes a visitor center and restrooms, and according to TOJ, it was developed for tourists and visitors on the busy Cache thoroughfare.

TOJ is encouraging tour companies, event planners and community members to utilize the parking garage on Simpson Ave. and Millward St., which is free between 4 a.m. and midnight. Town parking lots and parking spaces are often over 90% full during peak season, per TOJ. Local data has shown that the Home Ranch parking lot was regularly at capacity from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. with cars parked for more than three hours at a time.

“Going forward, the Town asks that groups save on gas and emissions and carpool from homes or the Parking Garage, Deloney, or Miller lots when carpooling from Town,” reads TOJ’s update. “Tour companies should pick guests up at their hotels, lodging, or the Parking Garage and event planners can direct guests to park at the garage. The Town will designate 15-minute loading zones for these purposes on Millward Street and Simpson Avenue.”
