JACKSON, Wyo. — The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) began plowing the parking area at the top of Teton Pass again, following the trailer traffic restriction that began Nov. 15.
The area at the top of Teton Pass is designated as a WYDOT brake check area but has long been used as a parking area for backcountry users. Now that the pass is closed to trailer traffic, the area can be used for parking.
No trailers are allowed to go over the pass until April 1. When conditions are hazardous, chain laws go into effect. In Wyoming, penalties for failing to follow chain laws can result in a $250 fine or a $750 fine for violations that result in a road closure.
Trucks can use alternate routes around Teton Pass. The most frequently used alternative route from Idaho is through Idaho’s Swan Valley, to Wyoming’s Hoback Jct. on Wyoming Highway 26/89.
